SEBA contemplating to hold Compartmental Examination

GUWAHATI: Following a direction from the Gauhati High Court, the SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam), is "contemplating" to conduct the 'Compartmental Examination' of HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) Examination. The SEBA notification issued on Wednesday added, "as had been done in the past, only in respect of the failed students as per the policy of the SEBA." The High Court order has given liberty to students to approach SEBA for holding the 'Compartmental Examination' in respect of the subjects in which they have failed in the special assessment, added the notification.

According to the notification, "As per the policy of SEBA, 'Compartmental Examination' of HSLC/AHM Examination was held in the past, for those candidates who could not come out successful in HSLC/AHM Examination but failed maximum in 3 (three subjects and obtained minimum 170 marks in aggregate. They were eligible to appear in the 'Compartmental Examination' only once as a single chance. The candidate appearing in 'Compartmental Examination' has to secure 30% and above marks in the subjects appeared and his total marks must be 180 to come out successful. The SEBA added, "The Hon'ble High Court in the order mentioned above said that SEBA has to decide sympathetically for holding the 'Compartmental Examination'. Therefore, keeping in view the order of the Hon'ble High Court, the Board of secondary education, Assam is contemplating to start the process of conducting the 'Compartmental Examination as per the aforesaid order after the declaration of the result of the 'Special Examination' to be held from October 1 to 11, 2021, on a suitable date on receipt of proper applications from the willing students who failed in maximum three subjects and secured minimum 170 marks in aggregate, in the result published of HSLC/AHM examination-2021. Such candidates will have to apply through the heads of the respective institutes."

The SEBA added, "The heads of institutions will have to submit the applications along with the list of willing candidates to the Inspector of Schools of the District. The facility of 'Compartmental Examination' so conducted will also be extended to the candidates of the Special Examination which will be held from October 1, with the same principle if they are unsuccessful and failed to pass the said examination but meets the eligibility criteria to appear the Compartmental Examination as stated earlier.

"Accordingly, as per instruction of the High Court, all the Inspector of schools are directed to receive applications from the students who are qualified to appear in the 'Compartmental Examination' as per the procedure of SEBA.

"There be will two categories of applicants, one who has already applied to appear in the 'Special Examination' and the other, who have not applied for the Special Examination. The candidates who have received Admit cards for the 'Special Examination' and applied for the 'Compartmental Examination', are allowed to appear only in subjects, in which they were unsuccessful -- subject to a limit of three subjects; and secured a minimum of 170 marks.

"All other students who have received Admit Card of Special Examination including those who have failed in four or more subjects will have to appear in all the six subjects. The Center in Charge of the Examination centres of Special Examination is hereby authorized to take action, accordingly.

"For the candidates, who have not applied for Special Examination and otherwise eligible for the Compartmental Examination, SEBA will conduct Compartmental Examination, as per suitability, in due course. The process will start after the declaration of the results of the 'Special Examination'. The willing candidates, who are qualified and desires to appear in the Compartmental Examination, have to submit their application as and when the process is started.

"This facility shall also be extended to the candidates, who appeared in all the six papers of 'Special Examination' and came out unsuccessful. "This has the approval of the Board, in its meeting held on September 28. 2021, stated apress release of the SEBA Secretary.
