Section 144 imposed in a few areas of Guwahati

Guwahati: Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the area of West Police District, Guwahati has been imposed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nabaneet Mahanta. Section 144 is a ruling that prohibits the gathering of the public in a given jurisdiction. It is imposed in a given region during an emergency situation or perceived danger of some event that can create troubling situations or is a threat to human lives or property.
Assembly of more than five persons including agitation, demonstration, procession and shouting of slogans are prohibited in areas under Bharalumukh, Fatasil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari, and Azara Police stations.

All the landlords and property owners of these areas should refrain from renting or sub-letting accommodation to any person without providing details of the tenant to the concerned police station. The people dealing with property business are also to abide by the order.

The order stated that some specified and unspecified persons are likely to disturb the normal functioning of offices, movement of public, and flow of traffic in the mentioned areas.
