GUWAHATI: The protest called by Dumping Ground Birodhi Mancha (DGBM) against the relocation of the city's dumping ground from Boragaon to Chandrapur continued on Wednesday.

Scores of senior citizens staged a sit-in and slammed the government's decision to relocate the dumping ground. They demanded the government to declare Chandrapur as a tourist spot and revive the closed industries of the area.

Vehemently criticizing Dispur MLA Atul Bora, the protestors said that he has not taken any action to oppose the State government's decision.

"We will have to continue our agitation to oppose the government from spoiling Chandrapur's environment by shifting the dumping ground here. I also appeal to all the people to take part in this agitation," said Khagendra Nath Das, a retired teacher.

Another senior citizen, Upendra Nath Daimary said, "The Amchang Reserve Forest is in proximity to Chandrapur. Yet the government is not being able to realize the potential of Chandrapur as a tourist spot. The Chief Minister should visit the areas under Chandrapur and interact with the residents to understand their demands."

Former Dispur MLA Akon Bora also visited the protest site and interacted with the protesters.
