Guwahati: Several Congress leaders from the state joined Trinamool Congress at a joining ceremony held at Rukmininagar Bihu field here on Wednesday.

This was the first such joining programme of the TMC in Guwahati.

Leaders like former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma, Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra, and newly appointed Assam TMC president Ripun Bora attend the programme.

The mass joining comes just days after former Assam Congress president Ripun Bora quit the party and joined TMC.

Later, Bora was appointed as the president of the party's Assam unit.

Ripun Bora was the second senior Congress leader from Assam, after Sushmita Dev, who joined TMC last year.

Meanwhile, there are also reports claiming that the two-time congress MLA Bismita Gogoi is likely to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to reports, Gogoi is all set to join BJP on April 28 at an event in upper Assam's Dibrugarh in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The reports also claimed that MLA Gogoi is in talks with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed her willingness to join the BJP.

Gogoi has served as the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Handloom, Textile, Sericulture, and Backward Classes Welfare from 2015 to 2016 in the Congress-led state government.
