GUWAHATI: The alumni of Shishu Sarothi interacted with the media and said obstacles they faced while participating fully in various activities.

One of the members, Victor Doungel, who has just completed his MA, said, "I faced a lot of problems when I went for my vaccination. There was no ramp at the place, and I am a wheelchair user. This should be a priority in all buildings".

Silsila Das, Project Coordinator at Bijoyini- a network of women with disabilities shared her unpleasant experience while taking an Uber ride with one of her friends when she was returning home from Shishu Sarothi. The driver was rude to her and told her that persons with disabilities should not roam around but should be sitting at home and refused to give her the ride. He cancelled the ride in spite of earlier confirming the ride. Silsila expressed that negative attitudes towards persons with disabilities should change and the media should sensitize the masses on the issues of persons with disabilities. Jayprakash Sharma, who has completed his MA from Cotton College, talked about making information, like the process for applying for UDID and government schemes for persons with disabilities, accessible for persons with disabilities.

Shouvik Bhattacharya expressed that they faced trouble while applying for railway concession because they have difficulty commuting long distances to apply for the same.

After the experience-sharing session of the alumni, the media professionals shared their feedback, a press release said.
