GUWAHATI: Shishu Sarothi (Center for Rehabilitation and Training for Multiple Disability), a rights-based, non-profit organization based in the city, in partnership with Indus Towers Ltd (formerly Bharti Infratel Ltd), has announced that scholarships for 2022-23 will be awarded to 180 deserving students with disabilities from the North-East who wish to pursue or are currently pursuing higher education in academic or professional courses at levels ranging from Higher Secondary to Post Graduation or Vocational/Skill Building courses. Additionally, young graduates who are preparing for Government jobs or civil services examinations can avail scholarship for preparatory coaching. A few scholarships are also reserved for students with disabilities from other States in India studying in Institutions of National Importance (INI) recognized by the Government of India.
According to a press release, the scholarship programme primarily provides financial support for scholars to cover educational expenses/tuition fees till the completion of their courses. Additionally, some deserving students will be provided support for specific requirements of study materials, assistive equipment and devices, conveyance allowance and hostel fees to facilitate and motivate them to complete the course of study.
A total of 180 students will be selected in 2022-23 and supported till the completion of their course.
Indus Towers launched the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme (ITSP) in 2016 under its CSR initiative with the objective of promoting inclusion in the education and professional mainstream. The scholarship program has already helped 464 students with disability to pursue higher education so far.
Additionally, career counseling sessions and rights awareness programmes are conducted for the scholars in each State to motivate and inspire them in their educational pursuits and journey of economic empowerment.
Online and offline applications for the 2022-23 session commenced on Thursday, August 25. All details about the scholarship are available at www.ssscholarship.org.
