SI exam scam: PK Dutta to be produced in court today

The prime accused in the police job scam, P K Dutta was brought to Assam in wee hours of Wednesday from Nepal

Guwahati: The retired senior police official, PK Dutta, mastermind of the SI exam scam has been brought to Assam, after being arrested in the Indo-Nepal border. He will be produced in court soon.

A team of police, led by ADGP GP Singh brought PK Dutta, his son, and his son-in-law to Guwahati. They reached Guwahati in the early hours of Wednesday. The former DIG, PK Dutta has been kept in the CID office in Ulubari.

The SI Exam which was held on September 20 was called off within minutes of starting the exam following the leak of the question paper on social media. Around 66,000 candidates sat for the exam.

Ever since the scam came into the limelight, Assam Police claimed that PK Dutta has been on the run. To avoid any legal action against him, he fled to Nepal, where his son-in-law is based.

The other prime accused, former BJP leader, Diban Deka,was arrested on October 1.

While investigating the scam, it was found out that the SI exam question papers were leaked via WhatsApp of Dutta's phone. Several raids were carried out in the city in connection with the SI Recruitment Exam Scam. The CID raided his residence in Hengrabari for hours. Raids were conducted at two of his hotels named Bhargav Grand, one near Lokhra, while the other is near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati.

The Central law enforcement agencies are in the process to register a case against Dutta for owning properties which are are not proportionate to his known source of income.

The Assam Police had earlier declared a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for anyone who will help them with information regarding the two prime accused, PK Dutta and Dibon Deka.
