Siddhartha Bhattacharya files nomination from Guwahati East LAC

The minister filed his nomination papers at the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner’s office, with a huge cycle rally with thousands of supporters.

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Development Department Minister and senior BJP leader Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Thursday submitted his nominations from Guwahati East constituency. He was accompanied by State Cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The minister filed his nomination papers at the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner's office, with a huge cycle rally with thousands of supporters.

Bhattacharya the winner of the 2016 assembly elections has been pitted against former Congress MLA Robin Bordoloi's daughter Asima Bordoloi. Asima will contest on a congress ticket.

It needs to be mentioned here that in the 2011 Assembly election, Congress' Robin Bordoloi, won the elction with 47,727 votes, comfortably defeating BJP's Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who netted 43,730 votes. However, things took a turn on 2016 elections, Bhattacharya, with 1,27,602 votes, ran away with the victory. The runner-up, INC's Bobbeeta Sharma, got just 30,965 votes.

The Guwahati East constituency is located in Assam's Kamrup district. It falls under the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency. The last date for filing of nomination for the third phase of elections is Friday voting for this phase will be held on April 6 as part of the 2021 Assam Assembly election.

Reportedly, exhorting confidence Bhattacharya asserted that he will win the ensuing elections in a large margin.

The Assam Assembly polls will be held to elect a total of 126 Members of Legislative Assembly. The counting will be held in May 2.

The other big wigs who will be contesting in the upcoming elections are- BJPs Atul Bora who will contest from Dispur, AGPs Ramendra Narayan Kalita who will contest fropm Guwahati West and BJPs Himanta Buiswa Sarma to contest from Jalukbari.

Meanwhile, a traffic advisory by the was issued the day before by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M), for the convenience of road users during the filing of nomination by various candidates for the Assam Legislative Assembly Elections, 2021 on 18. and 19. March 2021.
