GUWAHATI: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has applauded the steps taken by the state government against Congress MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah regarding his words of hate against Hindu priests. State BJP Assam spokesperson Kishore Upadhay mentioned this during a press meet in Guwahati on Wednesday.

He said that society will never forgive those who speak ill about the age-old culture and threaten the traditions, while adding that the state government should control people engaged in such behaviour with a strong hand. Accusing the Congress party of trying to attract Bangladesh-origin voters, he mentioned that there is competition going on between the AIUDF and the Congress for the same reason. Congress is busy attacking the Sanatan traditions by putting the Xatras and Namghars in a bad light. He also called it surprising that the Congress or their allies had given no reaction regarding the hate speech made by the MLA against the Naamghars and Xatras.
