GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police has formed an SIT (Special Investigation Team) headed by DCP (West) to investigate a case where a student allegedly cracked the JEE (Main) examination with a proxy candidate.

Recently, an FIR was lodged at Azara Police Station against a student who allegedly cracked the JEE Main examination with a proxy candidate.

According to the FIR, the student appeared in the JEE (Main) Examination on September 5, 2020 at Ion Digital Zone, Borjhar. A police officer from Azara PS said that the complainant – Mitradev Sarmah has also provided electronic evidence against the accused student.

"Meanwhile, the police are grilling Ion Digital Zone employees including its manger. The candidate and his parents have also been called for interrogation," said a police source.

In the electronic evidence provided by Sarmah, the candidate also revealed that an educational institution from the city helped him in this entire process.

"According to the evidence received, the candidate himself revealed that he came out of the examination hall after doing biometrics with the help of an invigilator and someone else appeared in the examination in place of him. As far the information received, the candidate obtained 99.8 per cent and AIR rank without appearing in the examination," stated the FIR. As the whole investigation is based on technical evidence, the police will need two to three days to examine the evidence, the source added.
