Special Task Force recovers huge consignment of Burmese areca nut

GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force of Assam Police carried out an operation in the Guwahati Railway Station, which led to the seizure of a huge consignment of contraband Burmese areca nuts.

Acting based on specific information regarding the transportation of suspected contraband Burmese beetle nuts, an operation was carried out by the Special Task Force in the Agartala-Secunderabad Special bearing Train no- 07029. The operation was carried out in the Wagon No- (VP) - 038320 of the train and a total of 499 gunny bags were seized. Each gunny bag had about 45 kgs of contraband, bringing the total weight to 22455 kgs of the Burmese beetle nuts being seized.

Following the seizure, an FIR was lodged with the Government Railway Police Guwahati Police Station vide GRPS Case no 221/2023 u/s 120B/379/411/413/468/471 IPC. The seized items were handed over to the Officer in Charge of the Government Railway Police at the Guwahati Railway Station and further legal action has been initiated.
