GUWAHATI: The State BJP has hit back at Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia for his statement against the BJP-led government in the State.

In a statement issued to the media on Saturday, State BJP chief spokesperson Rupam Goswami said, "Has CLP leader Debabrata Saikia forgotten the history of accumulated corruptions in the State for 15 years in a row? The corrupt practices did take place under the patronage of the then Congress government in the State. What role did Saikia play at that time? The present BJP government in the State has been bearing the brunt of corruptions that took place during the Congress regime.

"This government is going forward with the pledge of rooting out corruption and the policy of zero tolerance to corruption. This is the reason why this government has been able to send over 70 people to the jail in connection with the APSC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) scam. Despite making public the APSC scam with evidence, the then Congress government took no action. On the contrary, as soon as the SI recruitment scam coming to the fore, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took prompt action and ordered an inquiry into it. If such corruptions take place in other departments, action will be taken."
