State Innovation & Transformation Aayog promotes hemp cultivation in Assam

GUWAHATI: Dr Tanujjal Bora of the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand made a presentation on 'Hemp cultivation in the state and its prospects for the economic development of the state in the presence of Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka and the officials of the Agriculture Department at Janata Bhawan today.

Joint Secretary Gunajeet Kashyap and other officials of the Directorate of Agriculture & staff of State Innovation & Transformation Aayog (SITA) were present. Initiating the meeting, Ramen Deka stated that the genetically modified hemp crop is one of the most versatile crops in the modern-day for economic development. Its byproduct may be used in various industries like cosmetics, fabrics, paper and pulp etc. He further stated that this crop is cultivated in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh and asked the Agriculture departments to communicate with their counterparts to get the know-how methods and techniques to cultivate the crop and its modalities. He further asked the officials to visit those states to acquaint them with the method, a press release said.
