GUWAHATI: With the aim of making the Public Distribution System (PDS) more effective and transparent and to ensure better monitoring of the PDS network, the State government has reconstituted the State Legal Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on PDS.

The new committee will be headed by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass as chairman.

The members comprised of MPs Pallab Lochan Das and Topon Kumar Gogoi, MLAs Ramkrishna Ghosh, Hemanga Thakuria, Kamalakhya Dey Purukayastha, Bijoy Malakar, Aminul Islam, Lawrence Islary, Prithiviraj Rabha, Durga Das Boro and Kaushik Rai and the Principal Secretary/ Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs as well as Secretary of the Cooperation Department.

The Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs will be the Member Secretary while Aaroti Baishya and Kabita Basumatary have been included as woman activist members. Similarly Baijayanta Dewri and Banadip Deka have been included as the consumer activist members in the committee.

The State Legal Vigilance and Monitoring Committee is the highest body in respect of evaluating performance of the function of vigilance and monitoring at district, constituency, block and sub-divisional level construed in the state for ensuring transparency of the public distribution system as well as to ensure accountability of the authorities at different levels.
