GUWAHATI: An operation was conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) along with a team of WCCB, Assam units in relation to poachers in Kaziranga and arrested five people in Kaliabor of Nagaon district on Tuesday. The five arrested are identified as Md Gafar Quresy (24), Md Okil Quresy (60), and Md Safiqul Islam (39), all from Jakhalabandha; Ujjal Bharali (20) of Rowta; and Aditya Sarma (23) of Khanapara, Guwahati.
According to sources, joint operations of the STF were carried out under Jakhalabandha Police Station and Kaliabor Police Station in Nagaon district, where they arrested those five along with various contraband wildlife parts.
During the operation, the teams seized 12 ivory items, two tiger canines, 15 rhino hooves, one deer antler, 1.031 kg of pangolin scales, and five mobile phones from their possession. The five poachers and the seized items had been handed over to Jakhalabandha Police Station by the STF team for initiating legal actions against the perpetrators and for further investigation.
Accordingly, a case (122/2023 U/S 9/39/44/48(A)/49(B)/51 of the WLP Act 1972) has been registered under the Jakhalabandha Police Station for initiating legal action.
