GUWAHATI: Four organizations representing employees under the Axam Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission (SSA) have announced a gherao programme of the SSA office at Kahilipara on May 21 and a 'Dispur Chalo' rally on May 31 to press their demand for holding a special Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET).

The four organizations - All Assam SSK Union, Education Volunteer Association, Assam, Siksha Sarothi Siksha Karmi & Community Volunteer Association of Assam, and Thikabhittik Siksha Karmi and Sevak-Sevika Oikyamancha, Sarba Siksha, Assam - announced the agitational programme after a meeting here on Thursday.

Talking to The Sentinel, president of the All Assam SSK Union Abul Kalam said that they had worked under the SSA for periods ranging from two years to six years in lieu of meagre honorariums of Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. However, they were subsequently terminated from service without prior notice.

Kalam added that they have been demanding reinstatement since 2009. Although a special TET was held on October 3, 2021, as many as 13,906 candidates out of 14,573 candidates failed to clear the examination due to tough question papers. Their request for grace marks was also denied.

Therefore, they are demanding holding of yet another special TET, he said.
