Student Allegedly Attempts Suicide, Jumps Off School's 4th Floor in Guwahati

The parents of the minor girl have accused her school teacher of the incident. They claimed that the teacher repeatedly humiliated their daughter.

GUWAHATI: A minor girl allegedly attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of her school building in Guwahati's Odalbakra area.

The girl identified to be a student of Modern High School was immediately rushed to Hayat hospital in the city under critical condition.

The exact reason for the suicide attempt has not been ascertained yet.

However, the parents of the minor girl have accused her school teacher of the incident. They claimed that the teacher repeatedly humiliated their daughter for which she was forced to take this extreme step.

According to a police report, this year around 373 cases of suicide have been registered alone in Guwahati.

Earlier, a student reportedly committed suicide in her hostel room located on the premises of Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.

The incident took place in one of the hostels under Dibrugarh University named Aideo Handique Girls Hostel. The body was found hanging in the room of the hostel.

The deceased body has been identified as Ranjita Chetry from the Bihpuria area of North Lakhimpur, Assam.

The girl was pursuing her master's in the Philosophy department of Dibrugarh University. She was a bright student of 1st Semester, Philosophy.

The police department has also urged the parents to closely monitor their child's mental state and seek professional help from the police in need.
