GUWAHATI: An unexpected situation unfolded in the Beltola area of Guwahati on Friday after several female students raised complaints that they had been targeted by cybercriminals. These students then approached the police regarding the development.

The incident took place at the Beltola Mahavidyalaya Senior Secondary School, where around 60 students reportedly received threats over calls. The callers threatened them regarding the release of their edited photographs over the Internet. The students mentioned that they have been receiving these threats since September 23, wherein unknown people have been calling to blackmail them using a large array of phone numbers.

Some of the students mentioned that they had approached the principal of the school regarding the incident, but he failed to take action. Following this, the students approached the Basistha Police, demanding strict action against the cyber criminals, who reportedly asked them to seek help from the crime branch of the Assam Police. Meanwhile, the key questions raised by many of the students are how the cybercriminals could get the details of these students and if they were the only ones who were facing such problems.
