GUWAHATI: The 10 super suckers purchased by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) at a cost of Rs 25 crore in December last year are gathering dust at the premises of the GMC's Janxala branch at Basistha for want of money and manpower to operate them.

The super suckers are more efficient in garbage collection and disposal than manula labour. These machines can collect garbage and store it in their tanks before depositing the garbage in the assigned garbage dumps. The super sucker can work for 12 hours a day. However, the catch is that the GMC requires around Rs 30 lakh per month to operate these super suckers. And the GMC simply does not have the required funds.

Moreover, at least 12 personnel are required to operate these machines, but there is no money to train such employees and pay monthly salaries to them.
