GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell on Monday raided the Hengrabari residence of suspended Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika in the presense of a government-approved valuer.

The raid was in connection with the allegation made by one Anil Chandra Talukdar who had sold his land and house to Rounak Ali Hazarika. He alleged that he did not receive full payment in the land and house deal. Hazarika had bought the land and house in Hengrabari in 2001. According to sources, the deal was fixed at Rs 20 lakh but Anil Chandra Talukdar was not paid even half the amount. The last cheque he got from Hazarika was of Rs 2.68 lakh which allegedly bounced. When Talukdar went to tell Hazarika about it, Hazarika allegedly threatened him. Talukdar then approached the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell in this regard and the CM's Special Vigilance Cell recorded the statement of Talukdar and his wife in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM).

According to sources, the suspended DIG is being interrogated by the CM's Special Vigilance Cell in jail in connection with this case. The sleuths of the CM's Special Vigilance Cell also raided property of Rounak Ali Hazarika in Fatasil Ambari.
