GUWAHATI: The State Government has extended the suspension term of ACS officer Saibar Rahman for three months or until further order, with effect from Friday. The Personnel Department, Assam, issued a notification in this regard.

The sleuths of the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell arrested Saibar Rahman on August 24, 2021, in response to a case (03/2021). Rahman was the Deputy Secretary, Welfare of Minority Development Department, when the Vigilance sleuths arrested him.

The State Government constituted a committee to review the suspension of Saibar Rahman by examining all the records of the case against him. Considering the seriousness of the charges, which involved moral turpitude, corruption, and misuse of official powers for personal gains, the review committee said that the reinstatement of the ACS officer might not be in the interest of public service and might cause embarrassment to the Government in the public eye.

Based on the report of the review committee, the government extended the suspension of Saibar Rahman yet again.

Allegations go that Saibar Rahman committed irregularities in the appointment of gaon burhas and in land allotment while working as ADC in the South Salmara-Mankachar district.
