Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam demands Scheduled Tribe status

The Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) staged a demonstration at Chachal on Saturday in support of their demands. Their demands include that before the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, the Tai Ahom should be granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, an autonomous council.

GUWAHATI: The Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) staged a demonstration at Chachal on Saturday in support of their demands. Their demands include that before the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026, the Tai Ahom should be granted Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, an autonomous council. Along with these demands, TAYPA has demanded to declare the Ahom Land for a better-secured future of Assam. TAYPA president Bijoy Rajkonwar and general secretary Rudrasagar Buragohain said in a statement, “Still, there have been no results regarding our demands, even after our several protests. And if there is no progress, then we will not cast our votes for the forthcoming elections.”
