GUWAHATI: Alleging that the BJP government in Assam has betrayed them, the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) has demanded a separate Ahomland for the people of the community.

President Bijoy Rajkonwar said that they have been betrayed by the State Government which has been trying to divide the Ahom voters by the proposed delimitation draft published by the Election Commission. He demanded that the 2011 census should be put into consideration instead of the 2001 census in terms of delimitation.

The organization also opposed the proposed cancellation of the Amguri and the Lahowal constituencies of the legislative assembly mentioning that this draft was not for the protection but for the destruction of the indigenous people of the State. They also demanded that the six communities of the State be given protected status before the delimitation as this is an attempt to end the political representation of the Ahoms. They also demanded a separate Ahomland for the community that spreads from Sadiya to Mumai Kata Gorh in Guwahati.
