"We have served notice to them earlier. But they are yet to respond. So, we have taken this step," Das added.

Notably, as per the DTO, the deadline is set to 31st September 2021 post which strict action would be taken.

It could be noted that the Spanish Garden is one of the costliest residential apartments in Guwahati.

Earlier, the Kamrup Metro DTO (District Transport Office) has initiated an operation against the companies and firms that are avoiding paying the road tax of their vehicles. In this regard, the DTO has already scrutinized the documents of 75 such companies.

Talking about the arrears, Kamrup Metro District Transport Officer Gautam Das said, "There are around 100 such companies in Guwahati that are avoiding paying the road tax. On average, each company has 20 vehicles. If we compile the arrears of all the companies then around Rs 5 crore in taxes is due."

Das pointed out that many companies are giving a ploy that their vehicles have been damaged or sold off. However, they should have informed the DTO regarding the sold or damaged vehicles, said Das.

Meanwhile, the DTO has fixed a deadline for the companies to clear the arrears. Das underlined that action as per the Motor Vehicles Act will be taken against the companies that fail to clear their road taxes.
