Assam Teachers' Body Demands Ex-Gratia For Teacher Who Lost Their Lives in Election Duty

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association in a memorandum to the State Election Commission, Uttar Pradesh has demanded an ex-gratia to the bereaved family who have lost its life while serving the election duty.

This comes after more than 1600 teachers lost their in the state of Uttar Pradesh during the recently concluded Panchayat Elections during the month of April / May 2021. Further in the process from training to the counting hundreds of teachers got infected and loss their lives.

The Association allegedly said that as per recent media reports from Uttar Pradesh show the inappropriate decision of the State Government in considering only three "On duty deaths" whereas more than 1600 teachers died.

Further in such emergency situation the teachers' body has demanded that a compensation of Rs. 50.00.000/- (Fifty Lakh) should be immediately given to the bereaved family.

Also a suitable Government Job should be given to one of the member of the dependent family.

The association also demanded that the election commission should review the guidelines where election duty should be inclusive of total period of the training till counting and should not count the day of voting or counting as the election duty only.

Necessary amendments should be made in the guidelines of election manual in such health emergencies like Covid -19 where a worker on duty gets infected during the course of time but dies at a later stage because of infection and demanded to include those teachers also who were on duty and died later fir compensation and other support.
