Teachers' body moves Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over a slew of issues

A delegation of the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday to highlight a slew of demands.

GUWAHATI: A delegation of the Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday to highlight a slew of demands.

The delegation has appealed to the CM to construct boundary walls at primary schools, provide financial assistance to schools that have completed a golden jubilee, and provide shoes, socks, sweaters, and raincoats for the students.

Among other demands from the association includes – appointment of headteachers, grade pay for graduate primary teachers, and increase the earned leaves of the teachers.

Appealing to the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to address the teachers' issues soon, the association requested the government to reconsider its decision to merge primary schools.

"|Earlier, several schools were merged without following the concerned guidelines which created a problem. A commission should be formed and based on its suggestions the merging process should be taken forward," the association pointed out to the CM.

It also underlined that the contractual teachers should receive their salaries by the fifth day of every month. Moreover, if a teacher dies during service then his/her family should receive a pension.

The delegation from the association included – in charge president Anwar Hussain, general secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami, assistant secretary Jyoti Prasad Baruah, and member Kishor Das.

It is to be noted that the delegation also felicitated the CM during their visit.
