Teen Drowns at Sukreswar Ghat While Taking a Dip in the Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI: A teenage lad, thought to be between the ages of 15 and 16, is reported to have drowned in the Brahmaputra River on Saturday night while enjoying himself at Sukreswar Ghat in Guwahati, Assam.

Initial reports state that the class 10 youngster from Guwahati's Birubari neighbourhood, Zahid Ahmed, went to the ghat with five of his pals to escape the oppressive heat.

Sadly, one of them went missing when they ventured into deeper water while taking a bath in the river.

A joint team made up of the river police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation to find the missing youngster on Sunday morning after learning of the situation.

The SDRF staff claimed that they were unable to start the search immediately because of the nighttime the day before. Speaking to the media, one of the SDRF personnel said, “We got information that yesterday evening, a youth got drowned in the Brahmaputra River while bathing, however, due to darkness, our team couldn’t launch the search operation. Today morning, we resumed the search operation from 6 am onwards.”

Additionally, the SDRF staff informed that yesterday in Guwahati, close to Kasomari Ghat, a second drowning incident was reported.

“Yesterday, a youth from Geetanagar locality along with his friend came to take a bath in the river. While, one of them was rescued, the other one died due to drowning,” added the SDRF personnel.

A young man went lost while having a dip in the Charikoriya River in a tragic occurrence at the Chelajan Kachari village in Assam's Dhakuakhana.

The incident happened on April 15, a Saturday afternoon, when the victim, Traloikya, and his pals went to take a swim in the river but never returned.

Traloikya, a resident of the surrounding village, was reportedly carried away by the swift current of the river, according to sources. His companions quickly called for help, and the local authorities were made aware of the situation.

A young person allegedly leapt into the Lohit River from Assam's Bogibeel Bridge in a terrible occurrence. The young person may be Ankit Dutta Gupta, the Tinsukia teenager who vanished on May 24, Wednesday.

According to reports, Ankit was spotted moving from the Dibrugarh district's Borboruah Sukafa Tiniali towards Arunachal Pradesh.

The police have started a search effort to find the young man who dove into the river. An investigation into the situation is also ongoing in the interim.

Several personal items, including a laptop and a mobile phone, were retrieved at the scene of the incident during the operation.
