GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has raised the demand for resignation of all ACA (Assam Cricket Association) office-bearers, besides an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the cancellation of the India-Sri Lanka T20I match at ACA Stadium, Barshapara in Guwahati on Sunday. Gogoi has also criticized Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in this episode.

Addressing a press conference in his official residence here on Monday, Gogoi said, “The dignity of Assam has been smashed by the cancellation of an international cricket match in Guwahati. The State government has even failed to hold an international cricket match smoothly. The Barshapara field (stadium) was constructed during the Congress regime. However, the present government has even failed in proper upkeep of the pitch. They even couldn’t plug the leakage of the pitch cover. Just for the fault of a few persons, the people of the State had to hang their heads in shame. The ACA office-bearers should tender an abject apology for this lapse on their part, besides quitting the posts they’ve been holding. There should also be an inquiry into the entire episode.”

In his scathing attack on the State government and the Chief Minister, Gogoi said, “Sarbananda Sonowal often talks loud of making Guwahati the sports capital of India. He is very vocal in making the youth of the State develop through games and sports. The hard fact, however, is that he hasn’t constructed even a single stadium anywhere in the State.”
