GUWAHATI: On the last day of last session of the 14th Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) three organizations continued to stage dharna at Dispur Last Gate on Saturday.

The Sadou Asom Uchcha Prathamik Vidyaloyor Sohokari Shikshak Kalyan Samiti rued the fact that only forty per cent teachers in upper primary schools in the State were provincialized in the recent move by the State Education department.

Meanwhile, the members of Bishnupriya Manipuri Territorial Council Demand Committee, the chief executive member of which (Bidhan Sinha) created a sensation recently by demanding to be the chief minister of Assam for 24 hours only so as to pave the way for the fulfillment of the demands for various ethnic communities of the State, also staged protest. Their demands include ST(P) status for the Bishnupriya Manipuris and inclusion of their language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, the Creation of the Bishnupriya Manipuri Territorial Council in Assam, Tripura and Manipuri etc.

The All Assam Terminated SSA Engineers (TRP & WSTP) Association also staged dharna demanding the appointment of terminated TRPs (Technical Resource Persons) and WSTPs (Worksite Technical Persons) in any government department.

The association said that the TRPs and the WSTPs have been working from 2006 and 2011 respectively. "By diverting our salaries, the government provided salaries to the TET teachers and terminated us. In the last four years, we met the State Finance Minister, and the SSA Director. However, nothing came to fruition," the Association added.
