GUWAHATI: The police busted three high-tech fake telephone call diversion rackets in Guwahati and arrested three persons.

According to the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police, it busted two of the rackets yesterday and one earlier. Besides the arrest of three persons, the police also seized three Reliance Jio SIP trunk devices of different numbers of channels, routers, servers, computer systems and three mobile phones. They arrested three accused who used Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to operate the racket. The systems transmitted foreign calls in India, thereby bypassing the legal International and National Gateways of Indian Telecom Service Providers.

Aditya Kumar (25) of Bamunimaidam Railway Colony under Chandmari Police Station was the administrator of a company, Haygot Services Private Ltd. On behalf of the company, he was running the illegal racket remotely controlled by persons based in Hyderabad since December 2021.

Similarly, Birendra Baruah (26) of Bijaynagar, Army Public School, Basistha, Guwahati, was running an illegal call-routing racket at Kalpana Market, Silpukhuri in the city in the name of a company – Rawsegan IT Solution – based in Hyderabad since November 2021. Another accused Rajesh Siva (25) of Lalmati, Chamoguri, Guwahati, was running yet another illegal call-routing racket through the company at BK Arcade, Lokhra Road, Banikpara, Lal Ganesh, Guwahati since April 2022.

They rout the illegal International VoIP (Voice over internet protocol) to a SIP server from Andhra Pradesh to Guwahati and further terminated it using the SIP Trunk Reliance numbers 0361-3503100 (600 Channels), 0361-3520700 (100 Channels) and 0361-3520400 (200 Channels). It caused revenue loss to the government exchequer, amounting to hundreds of crores.
