GUWAHATI: After coming to power, the State Government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a notification on September 9, 2021, empowering the deputy commissioners to transfer government employees within their respective districts on the basis of requirement. However, the order was not followed with the right earnestness. Feeling the necessity of the notification to rationalize the workforce with districts based on the requirement to expedite the implementation of various schemes and works, the government reran the notification.

“...without prejudice to all other powers of the appointing authorities, the governor is pleased to authorize or empower the deputy commissioners of the districts (excluding Sixth Schedule districts) to transfer grade III and grade IV staff of all categories, including junior engineers and medical staff such as nurses, laboratory assistants, and others, from one place to another place within the same district.”

Meanwhile, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu tweeted today that “DCs are empowered to transfer a teacher on exigency grounds to improve the functioning of a school”.
