Transport workers submit memorandum to exempt vehicle tax penalties

GUWAHATI: The All India Road Transport Workers' Federation (AIRTWF) submitted a memorandum to Commissioner Secretary of the Transport Department, on Monday. The federations appealed the Transport Department to exempt the vehicle tax penalties and provide financial assistance to vehicle drivers and owners.

According to All Guwahati Cab Drivers' Union (AGCDU) president Ibrahim Ali, the drivers and owners who have been affected by the lockdown should be given a one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 for three consecutive months. Ali said that vehicle tax penalties should be waived till the month of August. The AGCDU appealed the State government to allow cabs to carry three passengers, bigger vehicles like Innova and Tata Sumos to carry 5 passengers and Magic vehicles to carry 6 passengers. Among other demands, the body stated that the government should provide subsidy to operate city buses and long distance passenger buses.
