GUWAHATI: The Latasil Police, Assam on Tuesday arrested two persons for disposing medicine garbage wastes near B Barooah over-bridge, Hedayatpur. According to a release from the GMC, the complaint was lodged by GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) Executive Engineer Khadyut Gogoi. The GMC stated that, on June 5, an unknown person disposed of medicine garbage wastes from a car near B Barooah over-bridge. The act created an undue problem in the solid waste management operation of the GMC and also, the hygiene of the public around that area was at risk, the GMC stated.
"During the investigation, video footage was collected where it was seen that a vehicle (ASO1MB8887) was involved in this offence. It was also found that there is a godown with House No. 55, Hedayatpur, where a medicine distributing business is currently running and the offenders had bought garbage from that godown," stated the GMC release. The involved persons have been identified as — Sahajalal Sheikh and Ahidur Ali. "It is impossible to achieve our goal of a clean garbage-free city without the support of the general public. Hence, we urge the general public to make efforts of GMC fruitful by throwing garbage only in dustbins and by boycotting open garbage disposal," the release added.
