Two New Foot Over-Bridge Inaugurated in Guwahati, Govt Promises 7 More by March 2021

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Finance and Health Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma on February 1, 2021, inaugurated two foot-over bridges in Guwahati.

These bridges equipped with lifts and escalator are located at Ganeshguri, near Apollo Hospital and Christian Basti, near the post office in the city.

Notably, the bridges will be operational 24*7, however, the escalator and lifts will be operational between 7 AM to 2 AM on a daily basis.

Meanwhile speaking in the inauguration event, the minister stated that Guwahati will get 7 more foot overbridges by March this year.

"By March, we will be able to inaugurate seven more foot overbridges for the people. In February, two more foot overbridges will be inaugurated," Sarma said.

These two automated, divyang friendly foot over bridges on G.S Road in Guwahati—one near Mizoram House at Christianbasti, has been completed at a sanctioned cost of Rs. 10,06,71,000.

Special features of the footbridge include automated elevator and ramp approach for Divyangas, two-way escalator, granite flooring, stainless steel railing, aluminium composite panelled ceiling, Dynaroof roofing, 2 staircases, open space and gardening, etc.

Length of the Foot over the bridge is 16.75 metres, Width is 3.10 metres and height is 10.10 metres.

On the other hand, the other foot-over bridge near Mahendra House at Walford, Ganeshguri, has been constructed at a sanctioned amount cost of Rs. 9,88,00,000.

The length of the foot overbridge is 20.68 metres, width is 3.10 metres and height is 10.10 metres.

Notably, these foot overbridges have been constructed with Switzerland technology. The bridges will be under 24 hours CCTV surveillance.

Speaking on the other infrastructure in the city, the minister stated that the Sixmile Flyover will be inaugurated before Bohag Bihu.

Meanwhile, under the 'Asom Mala' scheme, 42 new routes will be constructed and the tender for 7 roads have already been completed. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new scheme on February 7 during his visit to the state, " Himanta Biswa added.
