Minister Pijush Hazarika seeks Centre's support to solve flood & erosion problems of Assam

GUWAHATI: Minister of Water Resources of Assam Pijush Hazarika attended the 11th High Powered Review Board meeting of Brahmaputra Board took place at Guwahati on Thursday under the chairmanship of Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Representing Assam, Minister Pijush Hazarika told the board that Assam Government is taking the flood and erosion problem of the state seriously and scientific measures have been initiated to solve the problem permanently.

The Minister also mentioned that under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Public Works Department along with the Department of Water Resources are planning to build 1000 kilometer long road cum embankment in the state. Moreover, Minister Pijush Hazarika also spoke about the measures taken by the Water Resources department for the last five months to systematically and scientifically control flood and erosion in the state. Referring to the support of the Central Government, the Minister further said that Assam should be given more resources by the Centre to control the serious problem of flood and erosion in the state.

On the other hand, in today's meeting, the Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat asked the officers of Brahmaputra Board to have proper coordination in work with the related departments of the northeastern states and also to look into the possibilities for updating their expertise with the the modern technological advancement across the countries.

Today's meeting was also attended by Minister of Meghalaya Renikton L. Tongkhar, MLA and Vice Chairman of Human Resources Development Board of Mizoram L. Thangmawia, Secretary of Ministry of Jal Shakti, Sri Pankaj Kumar, Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, Naresh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Assam, S. Abbasi, Chairman of Central Water Commission, S.K. Haldar and other officers of northeastern states and Brahmaputra Board.
