GUWAHATI: Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Transport, Excise, and Fisheries, met Union MoS for Animal Husbandry, Fishery, Information, and Broadcasting, Dr. L Murugan, in Guwahati on Friday, where Dr. L Murugan took stock of the performance of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and various projects under NABARD. Officials from the Assam Fisheries Department appraised him about the coverage of KCC cards and the status of the flagship project of the Assam Government, ‘Ghore Ghore Pukhuri, Ghore Ghore Maas’. 

The Assam Fisheries Minister briefed the Union MoS about the functioning of FISHFED and AFDC and how these two bodies witnessed revival after the arrival of the BJP government in Assam.

Union MoS Dr. Murugan learned about the status of cage culture and RAS in Assam and was assured of all possible support from the centre to uplift fisheries production in the state.

Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, during the concluding part of the meeting, requested Union MoS Dr. L Murugan to expedite the functioning of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) in Assam, to which the Union MoS directed the CEO of the NFDB to immediately work towards establishing better coordination with the state department. The meeting was attended by Secretary of Assam Fisheries Department Kabyashree Mahanta, Joint Secretary and Director of Assam Fisheries Department NK Debnath, and other officials.
