War on Drugs: 106 People Held by Guwahati Police in Last Five Months

In its war against drugs, the Guwahati Police registered 61 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and arrested 106 persons from January to May this year.

GUWAHATI: In its war against drugs, the Guwahati Police registered 61 cases under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act and arrested 106 persons from January to May this year.

Along with the recovery of Rs 11,01,555, the following amount of drugs were seized during the period — 557.346 kg ganja, 248.16 gm brown sugar, 470.48 gm heroin, 7416 SEMPAX tablets, 210 NITRAZEPAM tablets, 35 cough syrup bottles, 30000 WY tablets, 42000 suspected psychotropic substance tablets, 30 Nitrosun-10 tablets, and 19.715 gm suspected psychotropic substances powder.

The monthly breakdown of the seizures is as follows:

In January, as many as five cases were registered and 10 people were arrested. A total of Rs 10,750 was recovered in the month and the following drugs were seized – 89.36 gm brown sugar, 5.78 gm heroin, 7416 SEMPAX tablets, 210 NITRAZEPAM tablets, and 20.200 kg ganja.

In February, 8 cases under NDPS Act were registered followed by 16 arrests. The drugs seized during the month were – 31.21 gm brown sugar, 111.3 gm heroin, and 500 kg ganja. Rs 36,305 were seized during the month.

In March, 10 such cases were registered and 23 people were arrested. The seizures include – 164 gm heroin, 35 cough syrup bottles, 30000 WY tablets, 42000 suspected psychotropic substance tablets, and 39 gm brown sugar. Rs 6,81,840 were seized during the month. In April, four cases were registered and 6 people were arrested. The seizures include – 11.700 kg ganja, 6.29 gm brown sugar, and 10 gm heroin.

The highest number of cases and arrests were registered in May. As many as 34 cases were registered and 51 people were arrested. During the month, 97.33 gm brown sugar, 102.72 gm heroin, 25.446 kg ganja, 30 Nirtrosun-10 tablets, 19.715 gm suspected psychotropic substances power, and 100 suspected psychotropic substances tablets were seized. A total of Rs 3,72,660 was seized during the month.
