Drug Racket in Assam: War on Drugs Continues Across Guwahati City

The city police is on its toes to tackle the menace of drugs and it has been continuously conducting raids to nab drug peddlers who are shackling the youths.

GUWAHATI: The city police is on its toes to tackle the menace of drugs and it has been continuously conducting raids to nab drug peddlers who are shackling the youths. On Sunday, the city police arrested a person with 15 vials of drugs from Teteliya here. The accused have been identified as Narayan Das alias Abdulla Sheikh.

The police have also seized five mobile phones and a Figo car (AS01- MA0030) from his possession. In another operation, the Crime Branch and Satgaon Police arrested one Nanao Mangte (32) with 302 gm brown sugar from Panjabari. The accused is from Churachandpur, Manipur. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Assam Police arrested 49 persons and registered 22 drug cases on June 5.

The seizures include — 2.062 kg brown sugar, 14.313 kg ganja, 1,17,138 tablets, 21 codeine based cough syrup bottles, 252 gm opium, and Rs 4,33,270 cash.

It is to be mentioned that the drug peddlers are using different techniques to avoid arrest and supply drugs. Amid the lockdown, the peddlers are delivering drugs to the doorstep by disguising themselves as food delivery drivers. In this regard, on Saturday, the police checked several food drivers in a bid to avoid drug peddling.
