GUWAHATI: The State Government today announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of Sumitra Rabha, who died in the water pipe burst incident in the Kharghuli area of the city yesterday.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan met with the family members of the deceased woman this morning and made the announcement. The minister also visited the camps where the families affected by the water pipe burst are staying.
Talking to The Sentinel, the minister said, "Under the provisions of the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund), the government will extend an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased. I have instructed the Deputy Commission of Kamrup Metro to hand over the sanction of the ex gratia. Each of the injured will also get Rs 10,000. The government will also pay Rs 5,000 to each of the affected families to buy utensils."
He said, "We have seen that some houses were also damaged in the incident. However, the damage to houses due to the blast of water pipes has no provision for compensation under the SDRF. We will extend financial assistance to the affected families from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund or from other sources."
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Atul Bora also visited the incident site and the affected families.
