GUWAHATI: A webinar on the theme 'Women in leadership-environment and ecology' was held for Post Graduate students of Gauhati University and NSS volunteers of affiliated colleges on March 3.
The webinar was held in view of the International Women's Day 2021 which will be celebrated on March 8. It was organised by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Regional Centre, Chandigarh in collaboration with Gauhati University NSS Cell.
Dr K Gireesan, Associate Professor & OSD, RGNIYD Regional Centre, Chandigarh gave the welcome address and introductory remarks of the webinar. The objective of the programme was to discuss role of women in leadership, environment and ecology. Dr Gireesan hailed the role played by modern women who have entered many male bastion like armed forces, politics etc.
The webinar was also attended by Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director, Students' Welfare, GU and Programme Coordinator, GU NSS Cell who gave the special address and lauded the role played by women in today's world.
Dr Kakati gave example on how women have reached high positions like President, Prime Minister, CEO, fighter pilots, army officers etc to name a few. Dr Kakati said that if we give proper efforts and pay adequate respect to women and empower them then only a stable society can be formed. Dr Purnima Devi Barman, Conservation Biologist and founder of Hargila army, recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar from the President of India attended the programme as a resource person and delivered a talk on the occasion.
She discussed the role played by women in various leadership positions and how they have positively impacted and contributed in their respective fields and set an example for others. Dr Barman emphasized on conservation of Hargila and importance of protecting the environment and the ecology. More than 100 students and NSS Volunteers attended the programme. Sheela Sharma, Training Associate, RGNIYD RC, Chandigarh moderated the session and gave the vote of thanks.
