Guwahati: Reacting to reports stating that state Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary on Friday (December 18) night, Minister Sarma said, "Why would I meet Hagrama Mohilary".

Speaking to media, Minister Sarma said, "why would I meet Mohilary. There is no reason left that we would meet for. I have said earlier that our path is different now." He said he went to Vivanta by Taj (a hotel in Guwahati) to meet Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

He further said, "We have already chosen the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) to ally with, why would I now meet Mohilary. What will we get by meeting each other."

A verbal duel has been going on between Sarma and Mohilary during the campaign rally of the recently concluded BTC polls.

Addressing a rally during the Bodoland Territorial Council elections in Kokrajhar, Sarma while continuing his tirade against the Bodoland People's Front chief Hagrama Mohilary said that BJP will not have any ties with the BPF in the 2021 Assembly elections in Assam. He also alleged large-scale corruption under the BPF rule and said that it is time up for the Hagrama Mohilary-led party.

He also claimed in a public meeting of BJP held at Labdangguri in Baksa District that Mohilary said he would not be allowed to enter the BTC.

While reacting sharply to Sarma's statement Mohilary said in the BTC election the 'fight' between the two allies – BJP and BPF had been 'scripted'.

However, many such wars of words between the two Ministers were seen during the BTC election.
