GUWAHATI: The APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) is now going to the people of the State with the statistics of Budget promises which the BJP-led government in the State failed to meet in the past four years.

Addressing the media here on Friday, APCC president Ripun Bora said, "Since 2016 the BJP-led government presented four Budgets. We're going to publish a book with the Budget promises that failed to see light of the day during the BJP rule in the State."

The Congress is going to address four press meets against the as many Budgets which the BJP government presented. Bora addressed the press meet for the Budget of 2016-17 on Friday.

"During his Budget speech in 2016-17, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma did say that during the Congress regime yarn and blankets were distributed at the cost of the State exchequer. However, the BJP government has also been squeezing the State exchequer by giving freebies to the Tea Tribes, Arunudoi, Arundhati, etc schemes. The CAG report made a mention that the government failed to spend even 30 per cent of the Budgetary funds in 2016-17. This government did promise for the setting up of 25 sub-treasures at as many development blocks. However, only one of them has been completed. The Finance Minister did also promise to pay Rs 2 crore to each of the 345 police stations in the State. The modernization of the police station has been a gimmickry. They promised to complete the NRC update by 2016-17. However, they rather put hurdles before the NRC update exercise. During the Budget speech, Sarma said that only 0.03 per cent of fencing of Bangladesh border was left. But he gave a wrong information."
