GUWAHATI: The lopsided BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) election, it seems, is in for witnessing a perfect counterbalance this time around with hectic political activities going on concerning the revitalization of the UPPL (United People’s Party Liberal). The UPPL with its full-strength is set to fight the BTC poll slated for April this year.

Former ABSU (All Bodo Students’ Union) president Pramod Boro and a number of other leaders joining the UPPL is being looked upon as a morale booster. The new blood and fresh ideas are the need of the hour for the UPPL for its revitalization to take on the dominant BPF (Bodo People’s Front) in the BTC polls.

Talking to The Sentinel against this backdrop on Monday, NDFB-P (National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Progressive) president Govinda Basumatary said, “We’re going to throw our full weight behind the UPPL in the forthcoming BTC election to topple the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF. Corruption and anomalies in scheme implementation in the BTC have been witnessed by the people of the BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Area Districts). The fall of the Hagrama-led BPF is more than certain this time around.”

The NDFB-P is one of the four factions of the outfit that are signatories of the latest Bodo peace accord signed on January 27, 2020. The outfit has over 900 cadres in two designated camps – one at Serfanguri and the other at Udalguri.

Basumatary further said, “We’re trying to unite all the four NDFB factions before the BTC polls.”
