Says BJP is publishing 'misleading' advertisements after lackluster performance

GUWAHATI: The Congress has stated that they will get more than 30 seats in the first phase of the polls held on March 27.

"The Congress will form the next government in Assam and the foundation has been laid in the first phase of the polls in Upper Assam and North Assam. During an assessment, it was found that the party performed well and will certainly win more than 30 seats. The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) will not get the same results as it got in the first phase of 2016 Assembly elections," said APCC president Ripun Bora while addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Monday.

Bora opined that the people have rejected the BJP's communal statements and have accepted the ideologies of Mahapurush Sankardeva and Ajan Pir.

He asserted that the BJP is unclear about its performance, thus it is publishing misleading advertisements in newspapers.

"In the initial stage of election campaigning, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that the party will win 46 out of 47 seats. Later, another senior leader from the saffron party said that they will win 42 seats. Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement that the BJP will win 37 seats. But, on the date of election results on May 2, the party will find out that it has not won even a single seat," said Bora.

Further he said that the Congress' 5 Guarantees are getting widespread support from people across all constituencies which is also evident from the high voter turnout in Phase 1 of the elections.

"The youths have shown an overwhelming support towards our job guarantee portal. There have been more than 1,75,000+ registrations already. As part of our ongoing outreach programme — Job Conversations, we have had massive turnouts with 75,000+ youth participating across 43 constituencies highlighting their current issues and their expectations. This shows how people want to associate themselves with our 5 Guarantees. We have not given the guarantees vaguely. We had consulted with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before announcing the guarantees," Bora added.
