Women society took out rally against CAA & gender inequality in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The women society took out a protest march from Lakhidhar Bora Kshetra to Raj Bhawan here on Saturday under the banner the Padatik Nari Samaj against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and gender inequality.

The women society claimed that by imposing the burden of foreigners on Assam, the State and the Central governments are actually hatching conspiracy to divert burning issues of the State like floods, unemployment and so on.

The women took out the protest March to Raj Bhawan demanding scrapping of the CAA, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s resign, release of Akhil Gogoi, Bitu Sonowal, Dharjyo Konwar, Manash Konwar and other anti-CAA agitators without any condition, compensation and medical assistance for those injured and martyred in the anti-CAA agitation. Besides the issue of CAA, the women also rent the air against gender inequality, discrimination and oppression.

Their demands include passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill, 2008; social security of the labours belonging to unorganized sector as per the Unorganized Sector Workers’ Social Security Act, 2008; forming of an internal committee under Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013; materialization of The Assam Witch Hunting (Prohibition, Prevention and Protection) Act, 2015 etc. Their other demands include streetlights on every road and subway, urinal for women in public places, hostels for the transgender community, inclusion of gender sensitization and sex education under SEBA course, and many others.
