Workshop on Northeast tourism development held at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Tourism Minister of Assam, Jayanta Malla Baruah, flagged off a workshop on the "role of airports in the process of developing the tourism industry in Northeast India" at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh, Secretary of the Department of Industry and Tourism Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Deputy CEO, Adani Airport Holding Limited, Sher Khan, were also present, along with representatives of various tourism-related organizations.

The minister revealed several initiatives of the state government to promote tourism in the region. He said under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has a strong vision for tourism, the NE region will flourish soon, and airports will eventually play a key role.

Sher Khan presented the airport data and mentioned that the airport has huge potential to grow. He also showed how Guwahati Airport may plan new connectivity with other cities and potential foreign destinations.

Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer of Guwahati Airport, spoke about the potential of the airport to become a regional hub where any citizen of the region can travel to any Indian city and come back home within 24 hours. He also emphasized that if international connectivity is established with eastern countries, Indian citizens will be able to travel to the east at a lower price and in less time. The possibilities of roads and inland waterways to attract tourists were also discussed in the workshop.
