GUWAHATI: Institute of Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Centre of downtown hospital organized a day long workshop on osteonomies around the knee on recently in the hospital auditorium. Dr. Steffen Schroter, an international AO faculty from Germany who was the resource person delivered his sessions on introduction of the rationales for osteonomies around the knee, deformity analysis, planning sessions, surgical techniques and practical hands on exercise on open and closed wedge hto (high tibial osteotomy). Dr. Tulsi Das Bhattacharyya, HOD- Orthpaedics of GMCH was the chief guest for the inaugural programme.
Around 80 orthopaedic surgeons around the state attended and benefitted from the workshop as the procedures which were trained to them can delay or prevent the need for a partial or total knee replacement by preserving damaged joint tissue and patients will be benefitted with the surgery. Knee joint preservation surgery aims at getting the knee joint ‘back in line’ so that it is more balanced. Renowned surgeons Dr. U.C. Sharma, Dr. Sanjeev Bhuyan, Prof. Kabul Saikia, Dr. U.K. Tamuli, Dr. Gauri Shankar Borgohain, Dr. P.K. Baruah, Dr. Anil Mahanta were the moderators of the sessions, stated a press release.
