PALASBARI: The NSS (National Service Scheme) Cell of GU (Gauhati University) celebrated the 'World Biofuel Day' on Tuesday through a webinar.
Welcoming the guests and participants, the Director of Students' Welfare and Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, GU, Dr Ranjan Kr. Kakati said that the 'World Biofuel Day' is celebrated to create awareness of various sustainable, bio-degradable and renewable fuels. Dr Kakati said that it is high time that we switch to bio fuels and other non-conventional sources of energy to reduce carbon emission for a greener Earth.
Inaugurating the webinar Prof. Bhabesh Ch. Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Cotton University said, "We must focus on clean energy sources like biofuels to protect the environment. He also emphasised on use of other renewable sources of energy like solar energy, wind energy etc." Attending as resource person of the webinar, Prof. Mohan Ch. Kalita, Dean, Faculty of Technology, GU gave an overall view about biofuels. Prof. Kalita said that it is of utmost importance to use biofuel or other carbon-neutral fuels to fight against global warming.
Moderating the webinar, NSS P.O., GU Campus Unit, Dr Rituparna Borah, said that biofuels are the future of energy sector and mentioned about the Assam Ethanol Production Promotion Policy 2021 approved by the Government of Assam as a step in the right direction.
About 200 participants comprising of NSS volunteers, Programme Officers, faculties and members of G.U. fraternity attended the webinar, stated a press release.
