World Meetei Convention urges Dispur to allot seat in the assembly

GUWAHATI: The World Meetei Convention (WMC) on Wednesday appealed to the State government to allot the community a seat in the Assembly so that their problems can be addressed.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, WMC advisor Potsangbam Sonamani underlined that around two lakh Meeteis live in Assam.

Further, the WMC highlighted their demand for ST status to the Meetei community.

"Through Assam government, we want to appeal to the Manipur government to grant ST status to the Meetei community," Sonamani stated.

The convention also expressed their gratitude to the Assam government for reviving the Manipuri Development Council.
