Shillong: Within days of the Meghalaya government deciding to allow heavy vehicles to ply through the city of Shillong, a 16-wheeler truck turned turtle in the Mawblei area under Madanrting police station near the SBI Madanrting branch.

This is causing a lot of inconvenience to traffic in the area. Mawlei is the entry point to Shillong from Guwahati side and sees a lot of traffic on any given day. The accident of such a huge vehicle has simply added to the woes of commuters in the stretch.

It is from October 29 that the administration had allowed all heavy vehicles- trucks and buses to pass through Shillong city because the road stretch around Dwar Ksuid near Umroi Bridge is in extremely bad condition. The government decided to allow heavy vehicles through Shillong to avoid any accident. Only empty trucks and buses are allowed to ply on the Umroi bridge.

Heavy vehicles have been allowed to ply after 9pm till 5 am through Shillong city.
